Assistance available to Delphi workers

Current and former employees of Delphi Corp., Steering Division, in Athens, including on-site leased workers from Bartech, Tech Central, Securitas, Electronic Data Systems and Aramark, may be eligible for benefits under the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance Act. Some 800 workers from the plant, which begins layoffs this month, could qualify.
The displaced workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation assistance and credits towards health insurance. Employees who have exhausted their unemployment coverage may also be eligible for weekly payments through the Trade Readjustment Allowance. Those who are eligible for benefits will be notified by writing by the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations as soon as they are identified. The notification will inform them of how to apply for benefits and services.
