Madison seeks District 3 judgeship

Hartselle, Falkville, Somerville and Trinity may be in the hunt soon for an attorney, municipal judge and prosecutor.
The possibility of that happening took roots March 3 when attorney Larry Madison qualified as a Democratic candidate for the 8th Circuit, District 3 judgeship, a position currently held by retiring Judge David Breland.
A 29-year veteran in the legal profession, Madison is Hartselle’s city attorney, Falkville’s town attorney and prosecutor, Trinity’s town attorney and Somerville’s municipal judge. He also serves as a substitute municipal judge for Decatur. He was honored for 20 years of service to municipalities as recipient of the Alabama League of Municipalities’ “Distinguished Service Award.”
Madison, originally from Fayette County, has resided in Hartselle since 1974. He moved here when his father, Max Madison, was transferred to the Gold Kist (now Bunge) plant when it opened in Decatur.
He graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in 1976 and a law degreein 1979. He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney from 1979 to 1983. He then entered private general law practice in Hartselle with Glenn Thompson and later Arthur “Ike” Grover and Jeff Gray.
He is married to Shari Lawrence Madison and has two daughters in college and two stepsons. He also has two sisters, Donna Maze and Betty Madison, both of whom are Hartselle High School graduates and reside in Hartselle.
