Morgan County’s first-term state senator said he’s not interested in pursuing a seat in Congress - at least not yet.
Orr’s name was brought up last week when Rep. Bud Cramer, a Democrat, announced plans not to seek reelection. Orr said he’s decided not to seek Cramer’s seat.
Orr’s district includes Morgan, Madison and Limestone counties.
A popular Republican whose name often comes up in Montgomery discussions, Orr isn’t ruling out a future run for higher office.
Although the two are from different parties, Orr said he appreciated Cramer’s work in Congress, though he hoped the seat will now go to a Republican.
Orr’s name isn’t the only one with a Morgan County tie being connected to the seat. Morgan County native Susan Parker, former state auditor and current Public Service Commission member, hasn’t said if she will consider running but her name has been mentioned.
