Two charged with scrap metal thefts

Two people were arrested last week with both facing charges of stealing scrap metal.
Justin Chad Oakes, 28, and James Clark Oakes, 40, both of Lacey’s Spring, are charged with theft of property in the second degree.
The arrests stem from thefts of scrap metal from a closed business in the Morgan City area of Morgan County.
On April 2, deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department responded a report of a vehicle at Video Oasis, a closed video store located on Highway 231. The Oakes were found in the rear of the building, loading scrap metal into their pickup.
Sheriff Greg Bartlett said theft of scrap metal has become an increasing problem. He asks all citizens to contact law enforcement immediately if they see suspicious activity.
