Funeral for Maurice V. Graves, 86, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., formerly of Hartselle, will be Thursday (today), Apr. 24, at 2 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home in Oak Ridge.
A graveside service will follow at Batley Cemetery.
Mr. Graves died Sunday, Apr. 20, 2008, at Norris Care and Rehab Center. He was born Apr. 26, 1921, in Fyffe, AL. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and later served in the U. S. Air Force in the Korean War and Vietnam War, retiring as a Lt. Col.
He held three collegiate degrees and believed strongly in education. He first graduated from Cornell University with a major in hotel management. He also graduated from the Jones School of Law and Air War College. He served as a certified internal auditor for NASA and the Army Corps of Engineers. His hobbies included playing music and raising birds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Duncan Graves; a son, Maurice V. Graves Jr. and his parents, William Joshua Graves and Cora Teague Graves.
He is survived by a son, Bill Graves of Clinton, Tenn; and three grandchildren, Jenna Hovater and husband Jason of Heiskell and Dylan A. Graves and Dane A. Graves of Alcoa.
