Packages from home brighten soldier’s day

A furlough from duty in Iraq gave Army PFC William “Hogan” Martin of Hartselle the opportunity he wanted to visit Hartselle Junior High School to say thank you for the care packages he received last year.
Martin addressed members of the school’s Good Deeds Club on Friday morning, two days before he returned to his duty station at Fort McHenry near Kurkuk.
When asked what he did with the items in the packages, he said he and his Army buddies ate the snacks and he enjoyed using the personal hygiene items.
Martin is assigned to a transportation support company and spends much of his time transporting military personnel and supplies to various locations in the war-torn country. He is on a 15-month tour of duty.
Martin is the son of Jim martin of Hartselle and the late Kerrie Martin. He is the stepson of
Liz Martin and the grandson of Betty Martin, both of Hartselle.
