Program benefits from teen’s gifts

Krista Schrimsher, granddaughter of Joy Coots of Falkville, endeared herself to Huntsville Hospital’s pediatric patients recently when she donated $350 worth of toys and games to the hospital’s Child Life Program.
The 15-year- old East Limestone High School freshman won the prizes at the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway at Disney World last January. She and her mother were visiting Disney World for their first time in order for Krista to compete in the Sanddollar Gymnastics Invitational as a member of Calvin’s Twisters of Decatur.
They were waiting to ride the Tower of Terror when Krista learned she was the winner of a Toy Story Prize Pack from Hasbro, a collection of toys and games valued at $350. It is one of 104 such prizes given away during the yearlong Disney Dreams Giveaway.
After two huge boxes, filled to the brim with toys and games arrived at her home, Krista knew just what to do with them. She and her mother donated them to the Child Life Program at the pediatric wing at Huntsville Hospital on Good Friday.
The Child Life Program provides preparation and support for pediatric medical procedures, surgery and general hospital stays. Its staff works to minimize children’s fears and stress during their stay in the hospital.
Krista is the daughter of Jerry and Gina Schrimsher of Athens.
