Driver mad about ticket
Editor:
I am writing this letter to warn my fellow Hartselle residents to avoid at all costs the town of Falkville. This one-light town needs your money so they have become the new Flint City and are running speed traps to rob anyone who comes through or around their town.
We are the latest members of our family to enrich their coffers and we live on a fixed income, and at the ages of 70 and 73 have never been ticketed for speeding and we were not speeding at the time.
I have notified the Alabama Attorney General about this speed trap and have also given a warning to the AAA auto club to avoid this area. There is nothing of Falkville of importance so it will pay everyone to take the interstate around this area for there is a law against them doing this there.

Alcohol story told the facts
Editor:
Accolades to you and The Enquirer for your apparent non-political efforts to provide the facts on significant Hartselle issues – in this case, liquor sales. I dare say, your report, "Liquor revenues vary widely from city to city", entailed considerable time and research but provides more realistic facts than so far presented from all other sources. And, as you pointed out regarding Ft. Payne, it should be recognized, and highly stressed, all revenue generated from liquor sales are not directly recognized as "liquor sales". Tax from "liquor related sales", such as; mixers (quinine water, margarita, bloody Mary, daiquiri, matai) plus garnishments (lemon, lime, olives, cherries), accessories (coolers, napkins, cups, stirrers) and even more cokes and extra ice, may well add up to equal or even surpass direct alcohol revenues. Honestly and inclusively do the numbers and I'm sure the total will approach those provided by the economic analysis firm contracted by Hartselle for projected economic analysis. Even if this revenue is not in itself sufficient for a new, bigger, better school system, it definitely will provide a big start.
Again, thanks for your reporting as it should be – factual!
