Former Hartselle High and University of Nebraska standout Brett Byford signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets this weekend.
Byford’s signing reunites the 6-foot-3 center with Bill Callahan, the former Huskers’ head coach who is now the assistant head coach for the Jets.
Byford was a two-time All-Big 12 honorable mention selection at Nebraska. He was also a team captain for the Huskers during his senior season.
Byford also had interest from several other teams, including Houston, Philade alphia, Buffalo, Miami and New England.
He was a leader of the Huskers’ offensive front for two years and helped the team’s offense thrive last fall.
Byford, solid in the classroom, earned his degree in psychology last December.
