Smoking line aimed at teenagers

The Alabama Department of Public Health is encouraging all teenagers, especially pregnant teens, to cal the Alabama Tobacco Quitline, 1-800-Quit-Now, for help in quitting tobacco products.
The department has launched a statewide campaign detailing the dangers of tobacco to teens. The department has also produced a new web page for teens, www.myspace.com/alquitnow.
The Quitline is available to all ages and provides free counseling to callers. Teens can receive a quit kit that helps them develop a personalized plan. Teens who agree to counseling and complete the program will also receive a gift card.
Nearly 27 percent of Alabama high school students smoke, about 13 percent higher than the national average.
