One of Hartselle’s most beloved and influential citizens passed away recently.
June 14, 1920-A son, Fred, Jr., was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sherrill Sr. Mrs. Sherrill is the former Mary Nelle Barclift.
Dec. 19, 1940-Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sherrill and Fred. Jr., of Birmingham are expected guests of relatives during the Christmas holidays.
Feb. 28, 1942-Fred Sherrill, Jr., is a new enlistee in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
June 10, 1943-Mrs. C. I. Lee was a charming hostess honoring her nephew, Sgt. Fred Sherrill, Jr., of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Jan. 25, 1946-Tech. Sgt. Fred Sherrill is back home after a tour of wartime duty in the Atlantic.
Aug.15, 1948-Fred Sherrill Jr.,
will receive his BA degree at the upcoming graduation exercises at Birmingham-Southern College.
June 15, 1952-Fred Sherrill Jr., is now a full-fledged M.D., having recently received his medical degree at the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham. He will intern at Carraway.
June 15, 1953-Hartselle is welcoming back one of its finest young men with open arms. Dr. Fred Sherrill Jr., has returned to his hometown to begin his medical practice.
July 1, 1955-Ownership and management of Hartselle Hospital is now in the hands of John E. Guier.
Dr. Claude Lavender plans to move his medical practice and his family to Houston. Dr. Fred Sherrill will continue to practice medicine here.
Jan. 14, 1956-Dr. Harold Blanton will come to Hartselle soon, joining physicians Duncan, Sherrill, and Guyton in the Doctor’s Clinic.
Feb. 25, 1960-Hartselle First Methodists plan to build on property recently purchased from Sarah Stephenson Kesecker. Dr. Fred Sherrill Jr., is chairman of the building committee.
Aug. 14, 1962-Horace Broom, Evelyn Orr, W.P. Maxwell, Arthur Bean, Dick Stoner, Fred Sherrill Jr., and T. B. Strickland Jr., have been selected by the city council as the first members of the new city education board. They will have the responsibility of studying the financial needs of Hartselle schools and making recommendations for improvements.
May 7, 2008-Dr. Fred Sherrill, Jr., died today at the Falkville Health and Rehabilitation facility.
May 10, 2008-The late beloved Hartselle physician, Dr. Fred Oscar Sherrill, Jr., was laid to rest at Hartselle City Cemetery. He passed away on May 7.
