Funeral for Daniel Ray Balcom, 55, of Fayetteville, Tenn., was Saturday, May 17, at Higgins Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville with David Sain, minister of West Fayetteville Church of Christ officiating.
Burial with military honors was in Community Cemetery near Fayetteville.
Mr. Balcom died Friday, May 9, 2008, when the helicopter he was piloting crashed on an oil tanker near Angola, West Africa. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as a helicopter pilot and a warrant officer and was employed with Petroluem Helicopters Inc. as a pilot for 10 years. He was a member of West Fayetteville Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kerri Balcom Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Balcom of Fayetteville; a son, Damon Balcom of Fayetteville; a brother, Tim Balcom of Decatur; a sister, Danell Kalagian and husband Paul of Calera; his parents, Charles and Ruth Balcom of Hartselle; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
