Halbrooks seeks District Judge Place 3 post
Catherine Phillips Halbrooks is a Republican candidate for Morgan County District Judge, Place 3. Halbrooks lives on Main Street in Hartselle with her husband, Darwin, and daughter, Nina. A lawyer for 14 years, her office is located on Main Street in Hartselle.
Halbrooks said if she’s elected, she will work to balance justice with fairness.
Halbrooks said it’s her experience in civil, domestic and juvenile matters, as well as working for four years as a Morgan County Assistant District Attorney, that provides her the necessary experience to serve as a district judge.
Her background involves every level of legal experience, having worked for 10 years as a paralegal in Birmingham for the largest law firm in the state. In addition to her work in the legal field, she served as an adjunct professor at Calhoun Community College and is certified by the Alabama Fire College as a fire investigator. She is also a Certified Moderator.
She is a member of East Highland Baptist Church, PACT, Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Directors of the Hartselle Historical Society.
Maddox running for revenue commissioner
Mickey Maddox is seeking the Republican nomination for revenue commissioner.
Maddox said he’s running on a platform of providing open, positive and enthusiastic leadership. He said he’d work to optimize resources to lower administrative costs, maximize fairness in appraisals and work towards better cooperation among county offices.
Maddox also said he’d like to increase teamwork amongst employees and work to improve partnerships with businesses and industry.
A native of Morgan County, he lives on a small farm near Priceville. He received his associate’s degree from Calhoun Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Athens State. He also received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, where he also earned a master’s degree, and an Ed.D. degree from Mississippi State University.
His work experience includes working as a machinist at Wolverine Tube, project engineer, project manager and quality manager for defense contractors, university administrator and associate professor at Athens State, and administrator and technology instructor at the community college level.
He is a deacon and and has served as a Sunday School director. He is married to Christine Price Maddox, a retired teacher who taught at Crestline Elementary. They have two sons, Michael and Jeffrey, and six grandchildren.
Realtor now wants license commissioner post
Mark McCurry of Decatur has announced his candidacy for Morgan County Commissioner of Licenses. As his party’s nominee, he will face incumbent Sue Baker Roan, a Democrat, in the November General Election.
McCurry is a licensed real estate agent with 11 years of experience.
He is employed with Parker Real Estate in Decatur. For 10 of the 11 years he and his family have lived in Decatur he worked at the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, a long-term foster care facility.
McCurry is a member of Decatur Kiwanis Club and a former long-time member of he Morgan County Board of Realtors.
He is an active member of Southside Baptist Church where he serves on the Personnel Committee and sings in the Sanctuary Choir.
He and his wife April have two children, Hannah and Stone. Both are enrolled in the Decatur City School System.
