Park and Recreation Department plans fun slate of activities

Hartselle Parks and Recreation has announced its schedule of programs for the summer of 2008.
The events are as follows:
Gospel Concert: The Primitive Quartet and Bama Blu-Grace will be in concert, sponsored by the Dreamweaver Team for Relay for Life, on Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. Advanced Tickets are available for $8 at Barbara Frost Accounting in Eva, Yates Christian Book Store in Cullman, and The Gathering Place in Hartselle. Tickets at the door are $10.
Sport Stacking: Individuals or teams race against the clock to stack and unstack specially designed cups. There will be a demonstration on May 17 at Sparkman Park between noon and 3 p.m. and a class at the Civic Center on June 6, 9 a.m. to noon. The class is free, but space is limited, so register early. There will be competitions during the class.
Hartselle Pool: The pool will open on May 24. The pool hours are Monday through Saturday 1-5:50 p.m. and 7- 8:50 p.m. and 1-5:50 p.m. on Sunday. Season family passes, admits four, are $175. Additional passes are $35. Individual season passes are $65. The afternoon rates are $4.50 for ages six and up, $2.50 for children under six. Evening rates are $3 and $1.50.
Daddy/Daughter Date Night: The date night is June 13 from 7-9 p.m.
Daughters are encouraged to bring their fathers out for a special night of dinner and dancing. The cost is $10 a person and should be paid no later than June 10 to reserve your place.
Water Aerobics: Starting June 2, Valerie Johnson will be teaching water aerobics at the Hartselle pool from 7-8 a.m. You must register for the class, the monthly fee is $25 or $5 per visit.
Soccer Registration: AYSO registration is on Mondays in June from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the civic center. The fee is a $75 and covers registration, insurance, uniform, and concession fee. Players must between ages 4 to 18 by July 31. New players need to bring their birth certificate.
Football and Cheerleading Registration: Youth football registration is July 1, 8, and 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and July 12 and 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. You need to go to the field press box located in the Grady and Margie Long Sports Complex next to the civic center. The fee is $85 for football and $55 for cheerleaders. Participants should be between 5 and 12 by July 31.

Princess Party: The first princess party will be June 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The party is for girls ages 5-8. They will play games, make tiaras, play make-up, and have “tea” at noon. Princesses are asked to wear there best gaudy princess attire. Register by June 13, cost $5.
Ballet Registration: The Serrano Studio of Performing Arts will have dance registraion on July 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. The registration fee is $55 per child and a monthly fee of $42 after that. Family discounts are available. Students will learn ballet, tap and jazz and have a recital in the fall at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center. Call 1-800-582-0951 for more information.
Luau: The annual Luau at the Hartselle pool will be July 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. The fee is $5 for ages 6 and older ($2 with a pass) and 3.50 for ages 5 and under ($1.50 with a pass). There will be a DJ, games, concessions and plastic Hawaiian leis for everyone.
Cage Fighting: Alabama Exteme Cage Fighting will be at the civic center July 26. The fights start at 7 p.m. General admission is $15, ringside seats are $20 and ages 4 and younger are free. Call Robert Clairday at 874-0044.
Wacky Wednesday: Will be held July 30 in the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be food fights, water gun battles, relay games and more. The fee is $5. However, children do need to bring food for the fight and a pair of goggles. Ages 8-12, register by July 28.
Back to School Dance: The dance will be for grades 6-9. It will be August 15 from 7 to 11 p.m. The fee is $5 and concessions will be available. Parents please remember that your child will not be allowed to leave the building without an adult. Also, we need new chaperones. Call to volunteer 773-2581.
Mommy and Me Picnic: You supply the food, we supply the fun. There is no fee, but please register at the civic center by August 18. The picnic will be August 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hartselle Senior Nutrition Center: Area seniors, ages 60 and older are encouraged to attend the nutrition center. Seniors will enjoy food, fun and fellowship Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until noon. Call in advance so there will be a meal prepared for you. For those unable to attend, but are interested in homebound meals call 773-0786.
The clinics for 2008 will be:
Tennis Clinic: Danny Light, USPTR tennis pro and coach of the HJHS tennis team will be teaching beginner and intermediate clinic June 2-5 from 6-7:30 p.m. Each student needs to bring a racket, can of yellow championship tennis balls, a drink and they need to wear tennis shoes. For ages 7 - 16. The fee is $35. Please register by May 30.
Cheerleading Clinic: The award winning Hartselle High School cheerleading squad will be directing the clinic June 11-13 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The clinic will be held at the civic center. Registration is the first day of the clinic. For more information contact Johnny Berry at 751-4025. The Fee is $65.
Soccer Clinic: The Annual AYSO Clinic will be June 9-13 and it will begin at 8 a.m. The fee of $35 includes daily refreshments and a t-shirt. Must be at least 4 years old to attend. Each person must wear shin guards and if possible bring a soccer ball. The event will be at Walker Field. Please register and pay by June 6.
MLS Clinic: Major League Soccer players will teach boys and girls ages 9-18 on June 9-13 from 4 to 7 p.m. for a fee of $105. Contact Darrell Harris at 773-0845 for more information.
Golf Clinic: Quail Creek will hosts its 2008 Junior Golf Camps. Camp 1 is June 23-26,
Camp 2 is July 7-10 and takes place between 4-8 p.m at Quail Creek. The campers will receive instruction on all aspects of the game and get to play the course. Clubs are available for those who need them. Fee $150 and there will be a family cookout to wrap things up. To register of for more information call the course at 784-5033
Golf ETC: July 14-17, from 1-8 p.m. Fee: $250. In additon to golf skills this camp also teaches life skills. Golfers will work on driving, pitching, putting and chipping. They will also play water games and fish. Supper will be provided each night. Thursday night there will be a Camp Skills Program for the Family. Contact Quail Creek for more details at 784-5033.
Baton: Kim Ellis-Robertson, who has over 100 twirling awards and is listed in the Who’s Who in Baton Twirling, will be instructing girls entering grades K-6 the basics of twirling, basic strut, and a dance twirl routine during this class June 16-18 from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be a performance June 18. Each student will receive a camp t-shirt. Register and pay the $35 fee by June 13.
Karate: Donnie Chappell, head instructor at Chappell’s Family Karate will be teaching life skills in a Christian environment. For ages 3 and up, the clinic will run July 21-24 and starts at 9 a.m.
Ages 3-5 will attend for one hour. Ages 6 and up will attend for 2 hours. The fees are $25 and $35 respectively. This amount includes a camp t-shirt. Please pay and register at the civic center by July 18.
Advanced Baton: Bama’s Best Baton Clinic, directed by Kim Ellis-Robertson, will be in July. Call the civic center for exact date. Fee $45 includes t shirt.
Challenger Soccer Clinic: This clinic will be July 14-18 from 9 a.m. until noon at Walker Soccer Field. Call Darrell Harris for more information at 773-0845.
Happy Holidays: Celebrate the holidays with us. We will have a theme party for five holidays: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Each day will have crafts, games and snacks that pertain to that holiday.
This will be held July 14-18 from 2 -4 p.m. Pay the $25 fee and register at the civic center by July 11.
