Funeral for Buel Blevins Drake, 95, of Hartselle was Saturday, May 24, at 3 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Redmond officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens,
Mr. Drake died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Sierra Springs Assisted Living Community. He was born August 11, 1912, in Morgan County to Joe C. Drake and Ella Blevins Drake. He was a lifelong resident of Morgan County and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He proudly served his country as a tank commander under General George Patton in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received a Bronze Star and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Silver Star. He was a proud member of the American Legion for over 60 years. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle where he served in the children’s department and as a member of the Seniors Band. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Hawkins Drake and two sisters, Lucy Moore and Blanche Cordar.
He is survived by a sister, Francis Walling of Birmingham; and three nephews, Lee Cordar and wife Carolyn and Boyd Drake, all of Decatur and Don Cordar and wife Janice of Birmingham; two nieces, Jo Logan and husband Ed of Birmingham and Dean King and husband Bill of Montgomery; and a special friend, Arvil Nix of Hartselle.
