County Democrats sail through, GOP faces primary opposition

Morgan County voters will go to the polls June 3, to choose nominees for their respective parties subject to the November General Election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters will have a choice of participating in either the Democratic or Republican Primary and one of about 27 different approved forms of identification may be used to obtain a ballot, according to Morgan County Probate Judge Greg Cain.
Voters who choose to vote in the Democratic Primary will have choices to make in only three races: U.S. Senator, U. S. House of Representatives (Districts four and five and Court of Criminal Appeals, Place No. 2.
Voters participating in the Republican Primary will choose nominees for Morgan County Commission, Place No. 3 and No. 4, Morgan County District Judge, Places No. 2 and No.3, Morgan County Revenue Commissioner and U. S. Senate, U. S. House of Representatives and Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
Incumbent commissioner Kevin Murphy and former two-term commissioner Don Stisher are seeking the GOP nomination for Morgan County Commission District No. 3.
Incumbent two-term commissioner Stacy George is opposed by political newcomer Greg Abercrombie for Morgan County Commission District No. 4.
Seeking the GOP nomination for the newly created Morgan County District Judge, Place 3 position are Catherine Hal brooks, Charles Langham and Huel Harris. Two candidates are seeking the GOP nomination for District Judge, Place No. 2. They are Brent Craig and Buzz Brown.
Mickey Maddox is opposing incumbent Amanda Scott for the GOP nomination for Morgan County Revenue Commissioner.
Morgan County has approximately 65, 000 0qualified voters who are registered in 44 different voting precincts, not including absentee and provisional ballots.
