Wallace claims national title

Priceville’s Caitlin Williams will be wearing a national championship ring soon.
The freshman shortstop/outfielder at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville helped lead the Lady Lions to their first-ever national championship recently as Wallace State beat No.1 ranked Santa Fe Community College in the finals of the National Junior College Softball Tournament.
The Lions went undefeated in the tournament, winning five straight games.
Santa Fe battled back through the loser’s bracket to reach the championship game against Wallace State, but the Lady Lions held on for a 5-2 win to claim the national title.
Wallace’s Jennifer Sexton was the tournament MVP.
Williams hit .281 for the Lady Lions this season while playing in 42 games as a spot starter. She had two hits in the national tournament.
