HJHS students net online victories

Hartselle Junior High School students won first place individual and team honors in an online Academic Leagues contest for science and social studies.
Zac Thomas, an eighth grader, placed first in the nation out of l602 entries in the eighth grade science category. In addition, teams representing the sixth, seventh and eighth grades placed first in team competition.
Contest participants take a series of three online tests per subject during the school year. Each test consists of 15 challenging multiple-choice questions with a 30-minute time limit per test. No reference material or calculators are allowed. For the team competition, students take the tests individually and the total of all team scores are combined to determine the national winners. Teams from 121 other states participated.
HJHS’s eighth grade Advanced Class Team of 51students placed first in two categories, social studies and science.
Trophies were presented to the school to commemorate the high academic achievements.
