June 12, 1958-Guy Roberts has bought out Bailey’s Style Shop. Mrs. Roberts will manage the women’s wear store.
June 12, 1958-Coy Turney has joined the regular Army. Coy graduated from MCHS on May 27. His initial posting will be with the Army’s Aircraft Defense Command.
June 12, 1958-A Falkville mother committed suicide at her father-in-law’s home tonight. She and her husband had been having serious marital problems. One source of the woman’s despondency was that he was about to be drafted into the Army.
June 12,1958-Hartselle collegians who are currently in attendance at UA summer school include Billy Groover, Mike Roberts, Bill Stewart, Wayne Barclift, and Charter Nicholson. David Buckalew is in summer school at API. Martha Lynn Roberts is matriculating at Huntingdon College.
June 13, 1958-A 24-hour retreat at the campgrounds for the intermediate department of the First Methodist Church began at 6 p.m. tonight and will end at the same time tomorrow night. Chaperones are Mrs. Warren Hamby, Mrs. Opal C. Stewart, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Oden.
June 14, 1958-Tommy Ed Roberts has gone to Chattanooga where he will be employed during the summer months.
June 15, 1958-Lizzie Reed Penn and Merle Freeman spent today in Russellville, the guests of Beulah Hester.
June 15, 1958-Ted Lee, a member of Danville Scout Troop 11, caught a black racer snake today. He is preserving it to show at the next troop meeting.
June 16, 1958-Bowes Channell, a student at Georgia Tech, is now back at home, spending the summer with his mother, Mrs. D. G. Channell, and other relatives.
June 17, 1958-Dr. Robert Sittason discussed fluoridation at today’s meeting of the Rotary Club. He believes it would do an immense amount of good for children’s dental health and cost each Hartselle citizen only about ten cents per year.
June 18, 1958-A kitchen shower was held tonight for Virginia Ann Johnson, bride-elect of Frank Stewart. Mrs. Lee Palmer and Betty Palmer hosted the event in their home.
June 18, 1958-A TB sanatorium employee, Jane Russell, drowned in the All States Tourist Court swimming pool today. Ratliff Hardwick, the motel proprietor, said Jane was part of a group swim which, for some inexplicable reason, turned into a profound tragedy with the young woman’s death.
June 18, 1958-Mr. and Mrs. Joe Summerford have returned from their honeymoon and are now at home in Falkville.
