Dog’s warning may have saved owner’s life

Sunny Richardson of Hartselle is singing praises to her canine companion, Amy Chiffon, for possibly saving her life.
The three-year-old Shih Tzu blocked her owner’s path to the front door of their home at 301 Speegle Street as Richardson was in the process of carrying trash to her garbage can. At the same time, a huge limb fell from a pecan tree and crashed into the path she always uses to get to the garbage can.
The trunk of the large tree is about five feet from the side of Richardson’s house. The path she takes to get to her garbage can is between the house and tree. The limb that fell was about 10-inches in diameter and the force of its fall drove one of its branches into the ground several inches.
Not only does Amy Chiffon seem to possess extrasensory perception, she has developed a special bond with residents at the Country Cottage Assisted Living Facility in Decatur. She visits there every Saturday, going from room to room until she has spent a few minutes with each resident.
A caregiver by profession, Richardson said she takes her dog to work with her each day.
