Director of student operations could earn $105,116 plus

Hartselle City Schools re-posted an on-line advertisement for the newly created position of director of student operations and student services on Friday after the school board met in a special session Thursday evening to complete the job description by including a salary schedule.
The salary ranges from a minimum of $75,567 for someone with a masters degree and no experience to $105,116 for someone with a doctorate and 27 years of experience. In addition, the person hired will be eligible to receive up to 5.5 percent more based on years of education experience.
The position was created following the retirement of the school system’s nutrition director, who was employed part-time. It also entails other duties and responsibilities related to the school system as a whole, including overseeing special student services, school safety – resource officer, school and system safety plans, support personnel evaluations, teacher observation/evaluations and assisting with discipline issues and complaint calls.
The minimum requirement for consideration is valid certification as an administrator.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said several people responded as potential candidates between the time the job was first posted June 18 and removed for the purpose of including a salary schedule two days later.
Hartselle High School Principal Jerry Reeves is one of those who have expressed an interest in the position.
He said Wednesday he talked with Reed about the job earlier in the day and picked up a copy of the job description.
The application deadline is July 3 at 3 p.m..
Based on educational background and experience, Reeves would be eligible to receive a salary of $98,869 plus 5.5 percent per year if hired for the 12-month position.
The board also amended a job description for a part-time technology integration facilitator by adding a salary schedule. The position will pay a minimum of $14,000 for someone with a master’s degree and no experience to $21,000 for someone with a master’s degree and 15 years of experience.
The board rescheduled a special meeting from June 30 to July 7 at 6 p.m. in the central office. School personnel matters that need to be resolved prior to the beginning of the 2008-09 school term will be considered at that time.
