Grants will benefit area projects

More than $75,000 will be funneled into the area through grants from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, according to Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, who secured the funding.
“The ADECA agency has several missions, but its primary role is helping communities meet their infrastructure needs through its grant program,” Orr said. “I am proud that the agency found several projects in Senate District 3 worthy of funding and has filled these grant requests.”
Hartselle’s Historical Society will receive $11,000 to help with renovations to the old Burleson school. The society is renovating the building to use as a performing arts center.
Falkville will also be receiving $20,000 to purchase an Omni monitoring system for four wastewater lift stations. The systems can be monitored online and will call utility workers when a problem occurs. The units will also store data required for Alabama Department of Environmental Management reports.
The Tennessee Valley Training Center will receive $14,850 to the Tennessee Valley Training Center to assist with providing equipment for the OSHA compliance training facility for North Alabama industries and contractors.
A $15,000 grant to the city of Decatur will be used to purchase signage, benches, trash receptacles and landscaping for a new park located at the corner of Grove Street and Davis Street. Also, the town of Trinity will receive a $15,132 grant to purchase playground equipment for Trinity Ball Park.
