Tip: If you can’t drive a stick, don’t steal car

An alleged Hartselle car thief’s inability to drive a manual transmission led to his arrest last week.
Garry Michael Wilson, 23, of 1303 High Street Hartselle, is charged theft in the first degree and four counts of burglary of an auto following a June 21 arrest.
Hartselle police were contacted by a citizen who said a man was revving a car engine at the intersection of High Street and Booth Street. The man said he looked out his window and saw a man running away from the car. Officers arrived and discovered the car had been stolen from a home on High Street.
Police said Wilson was identified as a suspect and later arrested. Police said the vehicle that was taken was a manual transmission and believe Wilson wasn’t able to drive the car and broke down across the street from where it was allegedly stolen.
Wilson is also charged with four other car burglaries.
He was taken to Morgan County Jail on $4,500 bond.
