Depot Days to span entire weekend

Hartselle’s Depot Days Festival will be two days longer than usual and offer more activities for people to see and enjoy, according to Susan Hines, president of Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event will begin Saturday, Sept. 13, with an evening of Little Miss pageants and conclude Sunday, Sept. 21, with a Guitar Hero and Karaoke Contest. Both are new activities.
The Little Miss pageants will be staged at Sparkman Civic Center with judging in four different age classifications, ranging from 5 to 19 years of age. Miss Alabama 2008 will serve as emcee. The Guitar Hero and Karaoke Contest will take place on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 21, in the entertainment tent at the junction of Railroad and Hickory streets.
A musical concert and a dog show are two other new activities being planned. The concert will feature choral students from Hartselle High School. It will be staged in E.A.R.T.H Park Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. The dog show will be in E.A.R.T.H Park Saturday, Sept, 20. Sponsored by the Decatur Alabama Kennel Club, it will feature demonstrations of agility, flyball, obedience and conformation.
Hartselle Ministerial Association will again sponsor a community-wide worship service Sunday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hartselle. Hartselle Historical Society will present its “Down Memory Lane” program Monday, Sept. 15, at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center.
The Depot Days Committee began meeting monthly in May to make plans and preparations for the annual citywide event. Once a week meetings will become the norm later on. Nancy Case is the chairperson.
