Hartselle airport to get county funds

The City of Hartselle came out a winner in the first round of 2008-09 budget deliberations conducted by the Morgan County Commission Tuesday morning.
Hartselle-Morgan County Airport was granted tentative approval for a $15,000 annual appropriation. There was no stipulation about how the money is to be used but it was agreed that certain improvements need to made at the county’s only airport in anticipation of the larger role it will play when the proposed South Morgan County Industrial Park is up and running.
Hartselle didn’t make a formal request for the funds. However, the city’s elected officials and airport board members have made overtures to the county government for assistant at the airport in the past.
The appropriation was suggested by District 3 Commissioner Kevin Murphy after the governing body approved level funding for Pryor Field in Limestone County at $36,000.

Several requests for increased appropriations were given preliminary approval. They included the following: Soil Conservation Officefrom $46,397 to $51,435; Morgan County Rescue Squad, from $22,500 to $45,000; and the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center, from $2,500 to $5,000.
