Love’s opening makes big splash

The attention of more than 100 elected officials, business owners and community leaders was centered on Falkville last Thursday for a ribbon-cutting and formal opening of Love’s Travel Stop at the Highway 55 and I-65 interchange.
As cars and trucks exited the interstate in a continuous stream and pulled into the travel stop’s parking lot for service, Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce representatives stretched a red ribbon in front of an enthusiastic crowd of well wishers and called on Falkville Mayor Jimmie Walker and Love’s District Manager Alan Byrd to step forward and do the honor of cutting it. Both flashed smiles of approval and had glowing remarks to make about the town’s newest and biggest business venture.
He recalled how he was shocked beyond belief in November 2006 when he first learned about Love’s interest in Falkville
The new Love’s employs about 85 people and is expected to generate about $288,000 in sales tax revenues for Falkville in its first years of operation.
As a gift to the community Byrd presented a check for $2,000 to the Falkville VFW Post.
Elected officials attending the opening included State Sen. Arthur Orr of Decatur and State Rep. Ronald Grantland of Hartselle.
