Woman charged in hit and run

A Hartselle woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run death of a 5-year old child in Neel.
Kelli Rene Cowart, 36, of 318 Lot 10 Wynn Wallace in Hartselle, is charged with DUI and driving with a suspended licenses and faces further charges in connection with the July 2 death of Jamie Glenda Burns.
Lt. Dennis Hughes of the Decatur Police Department said further charges ranging from criminal negligent homicide to murder are pending.
Burns died Tuesday night after she was struck by a vehicle at her home on Wynn Wallace Drive near Danville Road. Police said a truck struck the girl and left the scene.
