Funeral for Benford H. Riner Sr., 74, of Hartselle was Friday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at New Hope North Missionary Baptist Church with James Wray officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Mount Tabor Cemetery.
Mr. Riner died Wed., July 23, 2008, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 23, 1934, in Winston County to Walter Riner and Flora Woodard Riner. He was a member of New Hope North Missionary Baptist Church, a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and an employee of Sunbeam Bread Co. for 43 years. He was an avid sports fan. He coached baseball for 24 years and was a diehard University of Alabama fan. He never missed a game whether at the stadium or on TV. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Faye Riner.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Young Riner of Hartselle; a son, Benford H. Riner Jr.; seven brothers, William, Harley, Wayne, Randy, Harold, Henry and Donald Riner; three sisters, Pat Watson, Linda Pirckle and Juanita Sheets; two grandsons, Zachary Riner and wife Sheena and Justin Shane Riner; two granddaughters, Natashia Vaughn and husband Michael and Jessica Rae Riner; and a great-grandchild, Jeremy Vaughn.
Pallbearers were Mike Tucker, Sammy Lawrimore, Michael Williams, Ryan Halbrooks, Lee Kilpatric and Bobby Maples.
Honorary pallbearers were Zach Riner, Justin Riner, Michael Vaughn and Jeremy Vaughn.
