Losses end year for Hartselle

SELMA — Hartselle’s run in the Dixie Boys state tournament ended last weekend with a pair of losses to Auburn in the championship series.
Auburn beat Hartselle 8-2 Friday night in the first game of the three-game series. The Auburn all-stars added a 12-2 victory Saturday to win the state Dixie Boys championship and earn the trip to the World Series in Covington, Ga., which begins Friday.
Auburn will open in the tournament against the Virginia state champion in the first round of the World Series.
Auburn used an eight-run first inning to take a comfortable lead in the deciding game. The Auburn all-stars had six hits in the first inning.
Landon Sessions and Matt Gregg each drove in three runs for Auburn in the second game of the series, while Mitchell Roland added two RBIs.
Josh Rogers got the win in the deciding game.
Auburn defeated Hartselle 8-2 in the first game of the state championship series Friday night.
Hartselle’s offense was shut down in the opening game Friday night when Mitchell Roland struck out six and held Hartselle hitters to just five hits.
Roland also homered and drove in two runs for Auburn in the win.
