Mr. Matthews died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 1, 1945, in Morgan County to Guy Matthews and Norman Elaine Campbell Matthews. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a friend to everyone he met. He walked around with a smile on his face and joy in his heart. His love of photography and painting allowed him to be surrounded with wonderful people that touched his life in many ways. He loved raising ducks and quail. He enjoyed taking care of his fish tanks and building model airplanes. His intelligence and wisdom will always be cherished. Along with his ability to share his love for the Lord in his Sunday school lessons, he was ever so humble. He lived through what many people could never dream of living through with an undeniable faith. He was much loved by his wife and daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Humphries Matthews of Baileyton; a daughter, Emily Ann Matthews of Florence; a sister, Becky Harkins and husband Fletcher of Decatur; four nieces, Christi Harkins, Megan Harper, Sarah Harper and Katie Barksdale and husband Travis; two nephews, Skip Harkins and wife Mandy and Mason Stewart and wife Felecia; and a great-nephew, Hunter Harkins.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Methodist Church.
