Funeral for James M. Prater, 59, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Brandon Pilot, Roger Cole and Bill Partridge officiating.
Burial was in Bell Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Prater died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at his residence. He was born Mar. 8, 1949, in Morgan County to William Franklin Prater and Cindy Adaline Bishop Prater. He was a member of Lifeway Baptist Church, a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and the recipient of many medals, of which three were purple hearts. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Prater and a sister, Beverly Cutchen.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Prater of Hartselle; a son, James Eric Prater of Hartselle; a daughter, Amanda Kay Vinson of Hartselle; two brothers, Jack Prater of Eva and Hoyt Prater of Hartselle; five sisters, Bonnie Colburn and Brenda Barker, both of Hartselle, Alvijene Sandford of Decatur, Doris Ives of Kansas and Helen Claiday of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Bradley Eric Prater, Patrick Gunnar Prater, Jeffrey Blade Owens and Chelsie Danielle Owens.
