Drake seeks reelection to place four
Bill Drake is seeking reelection to the Hartselle City Council, Place Four.
He said he’d like to continue the work he started when first elected four years ago.
Drake said he would continue to work to help Hartselle grow.
Drake also makes a pledge to voters.
Drake, 55, is a 1971 graduate of Hartselle High School. He has three children, Josh, 29, Ben, 26, and Lauren, 19. He’s worked with BP (Amoco Chemicals) for 24 years and currently serves as process safety manager coordinator foreman.
Don Hall vying to return to council
Former Hartselle City Council member Don Hall is looking to return to that group, seeking a third term on the council.
He is running for City Council Place Five.
Hall served on the council from 1996-2004 and was a member of the city’s Planning Commission from 1989-2004.
During this time, he earned a designation as a Qualified City Official from the Alabama League of Municipalities.
Hall said if he’s elected, the first thing he would like to do is visit every school in the city and have a discussion with each of the principals to reevaluate the need for additional space.
Hall said he’d also like to look for new ways to utilize technology to improve city services and pledged to work for funds to support the proposed industrial park in Hartselle, the Highway 36 extension project and additional warning sirens. Hall said he’d also work for the completion of a dedicated senior center.
Hall, 55, is a Hartselle native and a 1972 graduate of Morgan County High School. He graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1976 with a degree in marketing and served five years in the US Army, where he achieved the rank of captain.
He has been in the insurance business for 19 years and works with Peck-Glasgow Agency as agency operations coordinator and field underwriter.
He holds the designation of a Certified Insurance Service Representative from the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.
He is married to the former Debbie Morrow and the couple has four adult children. They are members of East Highland Baptist Church. Hall is also a member of the Hartselle Area Chamber of commerce and the Hartselle Rotary Club.
Samie Wiley running for second term
Samie Wiley, a retired businessman and former mayor, is seeking reelection to his second term on the City Council, Place 5.
Wiley said he’s proud of the accomplishments city government has made during the past four years and wants to help continue to move the city forward.
Wiley said he also wants to see the Hammitt Street railroad overpass project completed and Highway 36 four lane from I-65 to Roan Road.
Wiley also listed some of the improvements that were made in Hartselle when he served as mayor. They include the location of a super Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, Burger King, a new jail and police department, the relocation of the library to the old Citizens Bank building, and the purchase of a wood chipper for the landfill.
A native of Hartselle, Wiley is a retired co-owner of Hartselle Frozen Foods and Meats after 42 years. He served as mayor of Hartselle from 1992 to 1996 and was elected as a member of the City Council in 2004. He is a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 52 and the Nunn-Oden Masonic Lodge, He and his wife Gladys have been married for 56 years. They have a son, Alan Wiley, and a grandson.
