Trinity man convicted of sodomy

By Staff
A former worker at a Decatur roller rink was convicted on sodomy charges last week stemming from incidents that occurred in the early ‘80s.
Lyle Daniel Montgomery, 52, of Trinity, was convicted of sodomy in the second degree. He will be sentenced Dec. 18.
State prosecutors said Montgomery preyed on young boys between ages of 6-13. The victim testified he was 11-years old when he met Montgomery, who was employed at Funland Skating Rink in Decatur. He testified his mother let him spend the night at Montgomery’s home, sometimes up to four nights a week. The victim testified that he was molested by Montgomery several times until he was 13 years old.
Three other men testified Montgomery had molested them, including one that said he was photographed nude. Another said he met Montgomery at a school bus stop when he was 8-years-old and, after befriending his mother, later molested him. The statute of limitations had expired in each of these cases. The state also produced pornographic pictures of young boys and love letters to children.
Montgomery faces up to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000.
