County commission pursues land purchase for health department

The Morgan County Commission has stepped up its efforts to locate and purchase a site for a new Morgan County Health Department building.
A potential site in Decatur was on the agenda for discussion at a regular commission meeting on Monday.
Judy Smith, RN, MPH stated in a letter that property at the intersection of Nelms Road and West Moulton Street could be subdivided into a suitably sized parcel. However, she listed some concerns and asked that they be addressed before the property is purchased.
She said there is a large low-lying area on the parcel that needs to be built up and asked if the county would be willing to perform the work. She also expressed concern about two overhead utility lines and asked for permission to have an environmental site assessment done before the land is purchased.
