Falkville suffers first loss of season

OAKMAN - Falkville couldn’t overcome four turnovers Friday night in a 14-7 Class 2A, Region 7 loss to Oakman on the road.
Oakman scored once in the first quarter and again in the fourth to grab the win. Both scores were set up by Falkville fumbles.
Oakman’s two touchdowns Friday were the first points allowed by Falkville’s defense this season. The Blue Devils opened the season with shutout wins over Priceville and Addison.
Falkville fell to 2-1 overall with its first loss of the season. The Blue Devils are now 1-1 in the region standings.
Falkville was making a bid for its first 3-0 start since the Blue Devils won their first six games of the 1992 season.
Oakman is also 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Region 7.
Falkville had just eight first downs in the loss.
The Blue Devils scored their only points of the night late in the game when Jonathan McNatt scored on a 3-yard quarterback keeper that capped a 74-yard drive.
Bryant Freeman threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tony Kirk in the first quarter to give the Wildcats the early lead.
Freeman added the 2-point conversion on a pass to Brannon Nunnelly for the 8-0 advantage.
The Oakman lead grew to 14-0 early in the fourth quarter following another Falkville fumble. Damiane Douglas broke loose on a 48-yard touchdown run to add to the lead.
Douglas finished with 134 yards on 16 carries to help Oakman post a 215-yard performance on the ground. Da’Paul Bevelle added 100 yards on 15 attempts for the Wildcats.
Falkville will travel to Double Springs Friday to face Winston County. The Yellow Jackets are currently undefeated and tied for the region lead with Lamar County and Sulligent.
