Funeral for Mamie A. King, 89, of Hartselle was Monday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas E. Elder and grandson Gary McAbee officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. King died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at her residence. She was a member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church. Known affectionately as “Unsinkable Mamie,” she retired at the age of 81 from Decatur General West Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Scott King, and a daughter, Elizabeth Anne King.
She is survived by a son, Kermit King and wife Stella of Hartselle; four daughters, Carolyn McAbee and husband Joe and Doris King, both of Hartselle, Judy Compton and husband Ray of Decatur and Peggy Richards and husband Ronnie of Falkville; three sisters, Esther Callahan of Kentucky and Mary Sparkman and Dorothy Kirby, both of Hartselle; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Muston, Robert Compton, James Compton, Greg Hopkins, Andrew Martin, Kenneth King, Scott King and Dustin King.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Ridge Methodist Church Missions Fund.
