HealthSouth opposes HMC’s rehab beds

A plan to expand rehabilitation services at Hartselle Medical Center is being opposed by HealthSouth Corp.
Hartselle Medical Center has asked the Statewide Health Coordinating Council to allow it to add 12 inpatient beds for rehabilitation patients. HealthSouth, which operates a facility in Huntsville, is opposing the request.
HealthSouth has 70 rehabilitation beds in Huntsville.
If the council does approve the measure, it would still need OK from the Certificate of Need Review Board, a process that could take several months to a year.
