Junior high students score A on drug tests

More than 600 Hartselle Junior High School students who volunteered to be tested for illegal drugs recently passed with flying colors, according to a report Hartselle School Board members received at their regular meeting on Tuesday.
Dr. Franklin Penn, ADA-504 counselor/coordinator, reported 80 percent of the junior high’s sixth, seventh and eighth grade students volunteered to be drug tested after a grant was received to defray the cost. He said students were offered a discount food card good at local eateries in return for their participation. The school’s system’s drug testing policy applies to high school student athletes and members of extra-curricular organizations only.
Board Chairman Dr, Andy Dukes welcomed the good news and thanked Penn for doing “an outstanding job of acquiring grant money for the school’s system’s drug testing program.”
