George’s political stance raises residency questions

Where does District 4 Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George live?
That question surfaced recently after George, who was defeated by Greg Abercrombie for the Republican nomination last June, said he would welcome write-in votes for the District 3 seat in the Nov. 4 General Election. Two candidates are on the ballot for that position, GOP nominee Don Stisher of Falkville and Democratic nominee Jimmie Brindley of Eva.
After George was called on the statement by a fellow commissioner, he recanted and acknowledged he couldn’t serve as district 3 commissioner because he maintains a residence in district 4.
He went on to say his wife owns and occupies a residence in District 3.
In answer to what he called “another rumor,” George said he has no intention of seeking the District 3 shop foreman’s job in the event Brindley is elected.
George’s interest in garnering write-in votes in the general election surfaced publicly last week at an adjourned County Commission meeting. When questioned by District 1 Commissioner Jeff Clark about why he was asking for permission to sell some used equipment with only a month left in office, he replied, “You are assuming this election is over but we won’t know for sure until after the election.
George helped initiate a trend of Republican candidates being elected to county offices when he was elected as a commissioner eight years ago. However, after he was defeated by Abercrombie, he promptly switch to the Democratic Party and vowed to work to reverse the trend in future elections.
