Funeral for James Doris Dobbs, 84, of Hartselle was Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Blackmon officiating.
Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Mr. Dobbs died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Morgan County to Ira Virgil Dobbs and Roxie Viola Edwards Dobbs. He was a native of Hartselle and was retired from Monsanto Company as a maintenance supervisor. He was a founding member and deacon of East Highland Baptist Church. He loved fishing, gardening, birds, raising his children and grandchildren and participating in church activities. He had a strong faith, love of God and love of family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, James Dale Dobbs and two sisters, Hazel Whitten and Freida Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Dobbs of Hartselle; two daughters, Pam Winstead and husband Thomas of Huntsville and Paula Smith and husband Chris of Madison; two grandchildren, Madison Olivia Smith and Matthew Thomas Winstead; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Olivia Marshall and James Olney Marshall III; two nieces, Ann Winton Kellett and Janet Stevenson; two nephews, David Winton and Mark Stevenson and extended family members, Eddie and Becky Thomas and son Michael, Richard Greenhill and family, devoted caregiver Ann Glassford and his beloved dog, Abby.
Pallbearers were Richard Greenhill, Eddie Thomas, David Winton, Jim Marshall, Doug Winton, Larry Winton, Mike Winton and Mark Stevenson.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the East Highland Baptist Church Adult Men’s II Class and spouses.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Highland Baptist Church Building Fund, the Audubon Society or Huntsville Botanical Gardens.
