Hartselle, Danville win tourneys

Hartselle continued its dominance of Class 5A, Area 15 with easy wins over Athens and Muscle Shoals in the area tournament at the J.C. Pettey Center Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers, now 47-17 overall, cruised to their third straight area championship with the pair of 3-0 defeats of Athens and Muscle Shoals.
Hartselle beat Muscle Shoals 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 in the championship game. The win was the Lady Tigers’ third win over Muscle Shoals this season.
Hartselle beat Athens 25-8, 25-7, 25-6 to reach the championship game.
Cerra Little, Mallory Jones, Cory Livingston and Alex Holmes earned all-tournament honors for Hartselle.
Little had 70 assists and 16 digs in the victory, while Holmes added 24 kills, one dig, one ace and two blocks.
Livingston, who was playing in her first match since suffering a knee injury against Muscle Shoals two weeks ago, finished with 21 kills, 14 digs, two aces and five blocks.
Jones had 11 kills, three digs, two aces and four blocks. Olivia Golden added 15 kills, 13 digs and a block.
Chelsea Bennich had 23 digs and two aces. Callie Miller added 18 digs.
Hartselle will open in the Regional D tournament against Arab Saturday at East Limestone.
Other teams in the regional tournament are East Limestone, Boaz, Madison County, Muscle Shoals, Southside-Gadsden and Lee-Huntsville.
Brewer earns regional spot
Brewer lost in the Class 5A, Area 12 championship 25-8, 25-17, 25-21 at Curry High School Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Patriots, now 34-18 overall, will face McAdory in the opening round of Regional C at Curry Saturday. The rest of the regional field includes Curry, Brookwood, Mortimer Jordan, McAdory, Springville and Carver.
Brewer opened the tournament with a 25-15, 25-23, 24-26, 27-25 victory over Cullman in the semifinals to clinch the region berth.
Danville wins area
Danville swept Hamilton 25-16, 25-9, 25-17 and Carbon Hill 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 to win the Class 3A, Area 11 tournament Monday afternoon.
Jordan Spinks, the tournament’s most valuable player, finished with 43 kills, 13 aces and six digs.
Lindsay Simmons and Kirby Wallace had 21 and 16 kills respectively for the Lady Hawks, who will play in the regional tournament Saturday at Good Hope.
Simmons also had six aces, three digs and two blocks for Danville, while Wallace finished with three digs and four aces.
Chelsea Keenum had seven aces, five assists and eight digs.
Kimberley Lindsey added 37 assists, three digs and three aces. Kaitlin Wallace chipped in with 34 assists, five aces and five digs, while Lacey Evans had 18 digs. Tara Wimberley added five assists and five digs for Danville.
Keenum, Evans, Simmons and Wallace were also named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Hawks will compete in the Class 3A Regional C tournament at Good Hope. Danville opens against Piedmont in the first round.
Other teams in the regional are Indian Springs, Pleasant Valley, Carbon Hill, Walter Welborn, Hanceville and Good Hope.
