Funeral for Kristopher Dane Hassie Johnson, 22, of Danville will be Thursday (today), Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with Neil Carter, Dan Compton and Earl Holt officiating.
Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, in a highway accident in the Neel community. He was born May 31, 1986, in Decatur to Gary and Evelyn Johnson. Praise goes to the staff of Decatur General Hospital and the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for their medical efforts during the first months of his life. Kris would find a way to survive through this initial battle to live and share with everyone a blessed 22 years of his life. He was known by many as the team manager of many of his father’s Lawrence County High basketball teams and was a starting member of the team as a player in high school. He liked to be known by family and friends as the “Main Man.” He was always quick and sharp to buy, sell and trade cattle and farm equipment. He was employed by 3M in Decatur and was proudly known by co-workers as “Scooter.” He never let being a young employee matter to him and he took every opportunity to impact lives and personalities on his team and those around him. He always possessed a smile or a grin on his face and took every opportunity to get the best out of everyone he met. If you met him, you had no choice but to like him and come to love him. Hard work was more of a hobby than a task. It was something that was instilled in him by his father at a young age. He attended Friendship Baptist Church and was of pure heart and great character. He was an excellent example of a son, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hassie Lee and Rena Holt, Alic Almon Johnson; and his stepgrandfather, Guy Holladay.
He is survived by his parents, Gary and Evelyn Johnson of Danville; two brothers, Patrick Johnson and wife Vanessa of Hartselle and Gary Alan Johnson and wife Rachel of Danville; his grandmother, Lorene Holladay of Danville; three nieces, Addie, Ellie and Ava Johnson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mark Retherford, Steven Black, Lance McCleskey, Dustin Crow, Mickey Brown, Tony Crow, Caleb Terry and Tony Scott.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
