Nov. 6, 1958-MCHS beat St. Bernard there by a score of 13-9 tonight. The Tigers’ first touchdown came when Buddy Roberts took a pass from QB Mike Cost over the goal line. Jimmy Speegle’s PAT attempt was unsuccessful. The second MCHS TD was made by Benford Mayfield, capping off a 65-yard drive. This time Speegle got the extra point.
Nov. 6, 1958-Hartselle Chevy dealer W. H. (Bill) Stewart was in Birmingham today for a meeting of the Automobile Dealers of Alabama at the Tutwiler Hotel.
Nov. 6, 1958-Duck season opened today and will last through January 15. The daily duck bag limit is four. Two Canada geese are permitted for each day’s hunting.
Nov. 6, 1958-Five Priceville residents, four of them members of the same family, were injured in a wreck tonight in an auto-truck collision on Bethel Road.
Nov. 6, 1958-This morning Fay Shull, an employee at Smith’s Restaurant, was pouring a big bucket of scalding water into a coffee urn. The bucket suddenly slipped and more than two gallons of blazing hot water seriously burned her face, arms, and body.
Nov. 7, 1958-An 18-year-old Union Hill carpenter died today when the girl he had only recently married allegedly hit him in the chest with a broken milk glass that he had accidentally dropped. The missile punctured his heart. While awaiting an ambulance the victim went to a bedroom and began reading the Bible. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Arab Hospital.
Nov. 8, 1958-Hunter Joe Sims, a 17-year-old Hartselle resident, suffered buckshot wounds in his arm, shoulder, and head this morning. One of his companions thought he had spotted a raccoon. When he fired the buckshot struck Joe who is now recuperating at Decatur’s Bank Street Hospital.
Nov. 8, 1958-Dr. James S. Martin, with his family, is in Montgomery this weekend attending an optometric educational meeting.
Nov. 9, 1958-Joy Turney, a student at Treveca College in Nashville, is here for a weekend visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Turney.
Nov. 10, 1958-Hunting season for bucks with visible antlers began today. One a day or three per season (which lasts until January 4) are allowed. Open season on foxes is continuous. In contrast, hunting of bears and alligators will not be permitted at all.
Nov. 10, 1958-Only a few more days remain for the purchase of the new 1959 auto tags. The deadline is Saturday, and tomorrow the courthouse will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day. Long lines are expected since about 3,000 drivers have not yet purchased their license plates.
Nov. 10, 1958-Beginning tonight, the Hartselle Public Library is open for three hours, two nights (Monday and Thursday) each week. The library is currently located in the auditorium of the municipal building.
Nov. 11, 1958-Today was Veterans’ Day. John F. Thompson Post 52 of the American Legion put on a full program of observance in Hartselle. Downtown stores proudly displayed Old Glory throughout the day.
Nov. 11, 1958-A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Owens, Danville 1, today.
Nov. 12, 1958-Mrs. Ben Calloway entertained a group of friends with a “koffee klatch” this morning.
