Cheerleaders selling Enquirer subscriptions to raise funds
By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Priceville High School’s 16 varsity cheerleaders need to raise $12,000 for a trip to Orlando, Fla. next February, and they’re selling new and renewal subscriptions to the Hartselle Enquirer as a fundraiser for the trip.
A trip to Orlando will give the cheerleaders an opportunity to compete in the 2009 National Cheerleading Competition Feb. 5-9. The 2003-04 squad won first in its division and the 2007-08 squad finished fourth.
The cheerleaders will receive substantial commissions on the sale of both new and renewal subscriptions. Subscription prices are $25 per year for in-county residents and $20 per year for senior citizens (60 plus). Cash prizes totaling $175 will go to the top salesgirls providing the squad sells 100 or more subscriptions.
The campaign will involve personal solicitations between the cheerleaders and their families, friends and neighbors. In addition, a telephone sell-a-thon will be conducted on a Saturday yet to be decided.
Subscriptions may be ordered by e-mail at hlmiller@morgank-12.org. According to Holly Miller, a Priceville teacher and cheerleader mom who is coordinating the fundraiser.
Miller said it will take about $750 each to pay the cheerleaders’ registration, transportation and lodging expenses for the trip.
