Sharp tellers stop fraudulent withdrawl

Three Montgomery men landed in jail on Oct. 29 after they attempted to defraud Redstone Federal Credit Union in Hartselle of $250,000.
One of the men is accused of using a fake picture ID and stolen account information in an attempt to withdraw $250,000 from a credit union account while his two accomplices waited outside.
All three were charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
They are being held in Morgan County Jail under a $100,000 bond each.
Those charged are Jeremy Slade Carter, 21, of 1513 Rhodes Street, Dandre Montrell Jones, 20, of 3616 Erwin Drive; and Barry Wayne Purnell, 51, of 2606 Crossway Drive.
One of the men, who was smartly dressed and looked the part of a middle aged businessman, walked up to a teller, identified himself as a customer and told her he wanted to withdraw $250,000 from his account. At that point she and her co-workers became suspicious and alerted Hartselle police.
Puckett said the crime is a felony and since it involved a financial institution the FBI is conducting its own investigation.
