Funeral for Thelma Bunn Fairbanks, 90, of Decatur was Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Burns officiating.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Fairbanks died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at her residence. She was a nurse at Decatur General Hospital and a healthcare giver for many years, especially in the baby nursery where she was affectionately known as “Granny Fairbanks.” She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, Walter Fairbanks Sr., two sons, L.G. Fairbanks and Walter Fairbanks Jr. and a daughter, Brenda Blagburn.
She is survived by two sons, Ottis Fairbanks and wife Jennifer of Kissimmee, Fla. and Carl Gene Fairbanks and wife Nancy of Decatur; six daughters, Doris M. Keen and husband Johnnie of Shepherd, Tex., Betty Hardiman of Priceville, Martha Kathyleen Thompson and husband Marshall, Judy Elliott and Patricia Elliott and husband Richard, all of Decatur and Maggie Kaney and husband Gerald of Alexander City; a sister-in-law, Shirley Fairbanks, wife of the late Walter Fairbanks; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Blagburn, husband of the late Brenda Blagburn; two sisters, Lucille Stover and Myrtle Blagburn, both of Decatur; a special family friend, Flo Fairbanks; 40 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Grandsons were pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
