Funeral for James Hollis Long, 86, of Neel was Tuesday, Nov, 25, at 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Mason, Rev. Mason Booth and James Arthur Long officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Long died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, in Lawrence County to James Marvin Long and Mae Kirby Long. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II and was retired from Monsanto Company. He helped organize rural volunteer fire departments and was involved in many other community activities. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Randall Arthur Long.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth McDonald Long; two sons, James Roger Long and wife Rita and Earl Lynn Long and wife Diane, all of Neel; a brother, Don Long of Neel; six grandchildren, James, Jonathon, Rodney, Melanie S., Melanie D. and Melissa; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Long, Rodney Long, Kevin Long, Curt Long, Ken Kirby, Rick Sherman and Allen Osborn.
An honorary pallbearer was Jonathon Long.
