State jobless rate increases

Alabama’s unemployment rate increased slightly in October but continued to be well below the national average.
Alabama’s rate of 5.6 percent unemployment in October is lower than the national average of 6.5 percent. Alabama’s September rate was 5.3 percent.
In Alabama, the counties with the lowest unemployment rate are Shelby, Madison and Tuscaloosa. Highest unemployment rates were reported in Chambers, Wilcox and Bullock.
