Hartselle Park and Recreation Department has a direct link to the North Pole. Send your letters to Santa to the department and they will be forwarded to Santa’s headquarters at the North Pole. He will send each child a personal reply. Send you letter to: Santas,C/O Hartselle Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 987, Hartselle AL 35640. Please include a stamp for your return letter. All letters must be received no later than Dec. 15. Teachers, if you plan to do this as a classroom project, please bring the letters to us not later than Dec. 5.
Surprise your child with a visit from Santa himself. Santa will be visiting children in the Hartselle area two weeks prior to Christmas. Parents, if you would like to schedule a visit to your house, stop by the Civic Center no later than Dec. 12 to make arrangements. Santa will drop by to see if your child is being naughty or nice. He will also bring your child a momento to recall the visit. . Space is limited so register early. The fee is $20 per child in the household and $5 for each additional child in the same household.
Renaissance Theatre will present “Miracle on 34th Street” Dec. 4, 5, 6 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. and Dec. 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $14. For information, call 536-3117.
Point Mallard Ice Complex will host a Christmas Skating Camp Dec. 22, 23, 29, 30 and Jan. 5 and 6 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The camp includes on and off ice instruction, supervised public session and food and drinks. Dec. 5
The annual Parade of Lights, sponsored by Riverwalk Marina and Riverwalk Yacht Club, will illuminate the Tennessee River Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. The boat parade will take its usual route, making a circle from the entrance to the marina, west to the Railroad Bridge, east in front of Rhodes Ferry Park and then back into the marina. The best viewing will be at Rhodes Ferry Park and the Hard Dock Caf/ and the marina entrance. The marina and yacht club invite parade watchers to bring a canned food item to the marina or park, donations will be distributed to a local charity.
Dec. 5-6
College Street Players will present “A Christmas Carol” at Hartselle Fine Arts Theater Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, under the direction of Edd Balch. Five performances will be featured as follows: public performances at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday and two performances for Crestline Elementary School students on Friday. Admission will be $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $7 for groups of five or more and $5 for students. Contact Balch at 355-5994 to make group ticket reservations. Otherwise, tickets will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Festival of Trees will be at the Sears’ wing of Decatur Mall through Dec. 6. This annual fundraising event is co-sponsored by the Decatur Charity League and Decatur Mall with all proceeds going to PACT (Parents and Children Together). Come view beautiful themed Christmas trees, holiday wreaths and Christmas ornaments. Hours are Monday – Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m. For more information contact Kathy Waldrop at 308-1800.
Dec. 6
Santa will be at Sparkman Civic Center Saturday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 9 a.m. He will share a story with your child as breakfast is being served. Then, each child will have the opportunity to share his/her wish list with Santa and have a picture made with him. The fee, which includes a professional photo, is $7 per child, ages eight and younger. Pay at the Civic Center not later than Dec. 3. Space is available for only 50 children. So, register early.
Priceville’s annual Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. The rain date is Dec. 13. The parade will assemble at the junction of River Road and Bethel Road. Float judging will be at 1 p.m. For more information, call 355-5476.
Eva’s parade will begin at the Eva Community Center Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. The parade will feature the Brewer High School and Eva Junior High bands and first place float will receive $75, second place $50 and third place $35.
Trinity’s Christmas Parade is Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. Trinity is offering three awards for top floats, with the first place receiving $250, $150 for second place and $100 for third.
Christmas in the Park will be Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at The Jack McCaig Park in Falkville. Falkville school band and Fairview Children’s Choir will perform. There will be Christmas carols, hot chocolate, cookies and lighting of the tree.
Dec. 13
Twickenham Historic Preservation District Association presents “The Spirit of Christmas Past” home tour Dec. 13 from 5-9 p.m. on McClung Ave. in Huntsville. Homes will feature traditional decorations, luminaries, caroling, chimes, music and live entertainment. Advance home tour tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger.

First United Methodist Church in Huntsville will host its 200th year Luminary Night Celebration Dc. 13 from 4-6 p.m.
Dec. 14
Celebrate the holiday season at a Candy Cane Hunt Dec. 14. Bring a basket or a sack for your candy and come to Pavilion 4 at Sparkman Park Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Children will hunt by age groups (ages 3 and under, 4-5, and 6-8) and prizes will be given to those who find the specially marked candy canes. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. There is no fee but registration is required by Dec. 12.
