Sen. Orr fufills pay raise promise

Keeping a promise he made when legislators voted themselves a pay raise, State Sen. Arthur Orr, R – Decatur, has donated the proceeds from the additional money to several charities and organizations throughout the area.
Through the end of FY 2008, Orr has received approximately $30,000 in additional salary from the state and has donated $26,880 to groups located in Senate District 3. The balance of the money lies in a separate charity account awaiting distribution.
Groups receiving funding from Orr’s pay raise proceeds include:
Orr, a former board chairman of the Volunteer Center of Morgan County, has also pledged to donate $2,500 a year for the remainder of his current term in order to sponsor the Center’s annual Volunteer of the Year awards event. In addition, he will donate an aggregate of $2,500 to charitable organizations whose members are awarded Volunteer of the Year awards from the Center.
He pledged to continue detailing his distribution of pay raise proceeds in early October soon after the conclusion of each fiscal year.
